Training in the USA | ![]() |
| USA Winter Gasshuku This was a great experience for all involved. Although a long drive from New Jersey, it was a cheerful and long awaited reunion with many members of the IOGKF family. Top of the list is the opportunity to see, train, and learn from Higaonna Sensei, particularly with Mika having her first opportunity to train under the guidance of such an illustrious teacher. (Kale having had this opportunity on Okinawa twice out of his three visits to the island.) Sensei was also glad to learn of our new addition to the Karate world, and Rowan was a pleasure throughout the trip, even going so far as to sleep peacefully through classes where I had the responsibility of assisting Sensei. Add to this, we got to see so many old friends, as well as make new ones. (We will be posting pictures of most of these wonderful people, as well as links to as many of their websites as is possible.) Training was a mix of strong Kihon, swift Suri Ashi, Kata commitment, Bunkai with variations, Tanren, San Dan Uke Harai and several levels of partner work, with the fun of Iri Kumi Ju. Add in several dinners, including the entertainment of the Sayonara Party (Elvis is alive and well. Who'd a thunk it? ;-)), and it was good to be back in the USA! All in all an excellent use of time and resources! Our Dojo will continue to attend these quality functions, and we look forward to host local, regional and eventually national special events. We hope you'll join us too.
